With several cases of lynching being reported in the state, the Assam Government has said that a bill against mob lynching will soon be considered.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika speaking about the topic said that although there has been no proper step relating to the issue so far, the government will take steps to prevent it.
“We will discuss and consider the acts implemented by other states,” he said.

He added that the government does not have any information about laws that other states have enacted.
But considering the Supreme Court judgement in the Tehseen Poonawalla case, which had issued a set of guidelines to stop mob lynching incidents, there seemed to be a scope of enacting anti-mob lynching laws”, he said.
It may be mentioned that there have been several instances of mob lynching in Assam during the past few years.
Most of the time during such incidents, victims do not even make it to the hospital.
One of the most recent incidents was reported in Jorhat where a student leader was lynched by a mob. Although the police had recovered him from the spot, he did not even make it to the hospital.
