Meghalaya poorest, Assam second poorest among Northeast states: NITI Aayog

A NITI Aayog report has listed Meghalaya as the poorest state in the Northeast followed by Assam. 

While Meghalaya ranks fifth in entire India, Assam is placed sixth in the NITI Aayog report. 

The all-India rankings of the other Northeast states are: Nagaland 10th, Arunachal Pradesh 11th, Manipur 14th, Tripura 16th and Mizoram 22nd. 

On the other hand, except for Assam all the other Northeast states have fared better in terms of nutrition aspect compared to Meghalaya.

Meghalaya also have the 10th percentage of malnourished persons among all states with 37.05 percent. 

Bihar has topped the list of poorest states in India followed by Jharkhand (2nd), Uttar Pradesh (3rd) and Madhya Pradesh (4th). 

Meghalaya (3.10 percent) has the sixth-highest rate of children and youth death rates among all states in the country. 

The national MPI measure has been constructed by utilizing 12 key components which cover areas such as health and nutrition, education and standard of living.
