Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday launched the construction work of the 8.25 km Majuli-Jorhat bridge over the Brahmaputra.
Chief minister Sarma also announced the construction of another bride at Dhunaguri near Bongalmora linking Lakhimpur district with Majuli.
The central government has already sanctioned Rs 925.47 cr for the project.
While sharing pictures of the launch of the construction work in Majuli on his Twitter handle, chief minister Sarma said: “Launched construction work of 8.25 km Majuli-Jorhat Bridge including immediate approaches over river Brahmaputra on NH 715K at Dakshinpat in Majuli.”

for sanction of this Rs 925.47 cr project,” chief minister Sarma tweeted.
In another tweet, chief minister Sarma said a Cabinet committee has been constituted to monitor the day-to-day progress of the project.
The Assam government aims to inaugurate the bridge by November 2025.

Chief minister Sarma said the Assam government will also take up construction of a new bridge connecting Majuli-Lakhimpur at Dhunaguri near Bongalmora from its own resources amounting to Rs 750 crore.
“A Cabinet Committee has been constituted to monitor day-to-day progress of the project. We aim to inaugurate this bridge by Nov 2025,” the Assam CM tweeted.
“GoA will also take up construction of a new bridge connecting Majuli-Lakhimpur at Dhunaguri from its own resources amounting to Rs 750 cr,” he added.
