Guwahati-based neurosurgeon Dr. Navanil Barua was arrested on Sunday by police on charges of helping model Rajkanya Baruah to avoid police investigation.
Sources said Dispur police on Friday afternoon arrested Dr. Barua under sections 201, 212 and 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after three-day marathon interrogation.
Dispur police also quizzed the neurosurgeon on Friday as well on Saturday in connection with the case.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Barua had allegedly admitted 29-year-old former Miss India finalist to the hospital on October 3 by signing a “false medical certificate” about a head injury.
Rajkanya had skipped police interrogation citing that certificate.
The Kamrup (M) Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Guwahati on Friday sent model Rajkanya to 14-day judicial custody.
The Assam police on Wednesday re-arrested Rajkanya who was granted bail within 24 hours of knocking down eight people with her car on GS Road in Guwahati on October 2.
