A daily-wage earner, a hapless widow in Assam’s Darrang district has sought justice for her differently-abled minor girl child, who became pregnant after being gang-raped a few months back.
The minor, a resident of the Mollapara area under Kharupetia police station in Darrang district, became a victim of gang-rape.
However, the minor out of fear didn’t disclose anything to her widow mother, who is taking the burden of three other minors.

Recently, the minor girl’s mother suspected some unnatural growth in the body of the 13-year-old girl child and later it was diagnosed that the minor was pregnant.
According to sources of Childline, Darrang, a team of which visited the minor’s family on Friday, the survivor minor is the eldest of the four children of the widow, who doesn’t even have a house of their own.

The widow prayed for help and expressed her hapless situation before the Childline team.
In this connection, an FIR was lodged at the Kharupetia police station accusing 3 local youths – Minarul, Ansari and Mafiz – of gang-raping the minor.
Subsequently, a case (No. 388/2021) was registered under the provisions of the POCSO Act.
It has been alleged that the minor, who is physically disabled, was gang-raped when she was coming back from the bakery unit she used to work to help her mother.

Meanwhile, the socially sensitive circle here has expressed serious concern over the matter and demanded urgent intervention of the health and social welfare departments to ensure all necessary care and protection of the minor survivor and her underprivileged family.
Northeast Now tried to contact Darrang deputy commissioner Prabhati Thousen and the District Social Welfare Officer Raj Lakhi Deori over the phone but failed to get any response.
