A local court in Guwahati on Friday sent model and former Miss India finalist Rajkanya Baruah to 14-day judicial custody.
The Assam police on Wednesday re-arrested Rajkanya who was granted bail within 24 hours of knocking down eight people with her car on GS Road in Guwahati on October 2.
On Thursday, she was produced before the Kamrup (M) CJM’s court, which sent her to police remand for one day.
The court on Thursday had ordered seizure and cancellation of the driving license of Rajkanya Baruah with immediate effect.
The 29-year-old Rajkanya was kept at the Dispur police station on Wednesday night, where police interrogated her.
Meanwhile, Dispur police on Friday grilled neurosurgeon Navanil Baruah in connection with the case.
Baruah had signed the medical certificate for Baruah, citing head injury, following which she was admitted to the hospital.
Legal experts in Guwahati said the hospital and the neurosurgeon may face charges of “issuing or signing false certificates” to the accused and “fabricating false evidence”.
