Dhubri Police on Saturday evening opened one round fire at the tyre of a vehicle carrying cattle.
After the tyre of the vehicle punctured, the Dhubri Police seized the vehicle along with six cattle heads on the spot.
However, the driver of the vehicle managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.
There has been no report of any injury so far.

The incident of firing took place at around 8:30 pm on Saturday.
Dhubri superintendent of police Abhijit Gaurav said, “Acting on specific information about cattle smuggling, the Golakganj and Agomani police erected barricades at several locations.”
“The police personnel started to chase a vehicle, bearing registration No WB-63B-4552, which was carrying cattle from West Bengal to Assam”
“The joint police party of Golakganj and Agomoni chased the vehicle for several kilometers,” the police officer said.
“But the vehicle driver continued to ignore the police signals and also hit the barricades and didn’t stop. Finally, one round was fired by the police team targetting the tyre of the vehicle and the tyre got punctured,” said the Dhubri SP.
The driver diverted the vehicle to a bylane and ran away, he informed.
A total of six cattle heads were recovered from the said vehicle.
Search operation for the culprits is going on, said police.
