The South Salmara Police in Lower Assam arrested a Home Guard for his alleged role in the smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh across the international border in the district.
The accused has been identified as Moinul Hoque Choudhury, who was earlier posted at the South Salmara police station.

Police sources revealed that the accused has been booked on the basis of specific evidence found about his involvement in the alleged illegal trade of cattle and drug-related trade.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sent to judicial custody.

Police sources further informed that the Home Guard had been allegedly running trade of cattle smuggling for long by managing corrupt officials and also few local media persons.
He was also involved in leaking information of the police movements to the active groups of cattle smugglers in the locality, police alleged.
