An innovator from Assam’s North Lakhimpur has won a patent for his machine that manufactures interlocking building blocks.

Innovator Umesh Chandra Sarma of North Lakhimpur in Lakhimpur district has been awarded the patent by the Intellectual Property India, Government of India.

He has been awarded the patent for “An Apparatus for Manufacturing an Interlocking Building Blocks and Methods Thereof” vide Patent No. 365878, dated April 30, 2021 under Patents Act, 1970.

Sarma applied for the patent in 2015.

Umesh Chandra Sarma has been dedicatedly working in designing and developing the building block since 1999.

His design of the apparatus was in review by the National Innovation Foundation-Ahmedabad since 2014.

Sarma was also awarded by the President of India twice for his innovations in 2009 and 2015.

The interlocking building block manufacturing machine has been lauded as a revolutionary innovation.

The innovator claims that the machine can make eco-friendly blocks instead of clay bricks.

It can reduce construction costs of buildings and at the same time, it reduces air pollution from brick kilns.
