A huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the India-Myanmar border town of Moreh in Manipur.
“In a well planned and executed joint operation, Moreh Battalion of IGAR South under Spear Corps along with Manipur Police seized a huge cache of arms, ammunitions and other warlike stores in S Moljol village in Moreh,” read a statement.
The statement added: “Based on specific input about hidden cache of arms and ammunition in a house at S Moljol village, a joint operation was launched by a team of Moreh Batallion along with Manipur Police.”
Two M-16 rifles, two AK-56 rifles, two 9mm pistols, one Chinese hand grenade, 361 rounds of 7.62 mm, 31 rounds of 5.56 mm, 23 rounds of 9mm, four rounds of .38mm, nine magazines of assault rifles, three magazines of pistols and other warlike stores were recovered after the raid.

Meanwhile, the recovered arms, ammunition and other warlike stores have been handed over to Moreh Police officials for further legal action.
The Manipur Government has directed the police and the paramilitary forces deployed in the state to beef up security ahead of the Independence Day.
Security has been beefed up in all the sensitive areas across Manipur to prevent any untoward from taking place in the run-up to Independence Day.
Troopers from the Assam Rifles, Manipur Rifles and other security agencies are assisting the state police in cordon and search operations.
