Guwahati: Four Indian nationals were rescued from a hydropower project in Nepal’s Rasuwa district on August 29, according to an update issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The four rescued individuals have been identified as Ripu Kumar, Chaneshwar Narzary, Kripa Shankar and Mohammed Minhajuddin. They are expected to reach Kathmandu shortly.
According to the MEA’s latest update, issued as of 5 pm on August 29, a total of 88 Indian nationals have been rescued, while 287 Indian nationals remain missing. Another 128 persons of Indian origin have also been reported missing.
India has also stepped up relief and rescue assistance following the disaster in Nepal. A team of six forensic experts from India is expected to reach Kathmandu to assist with DNA analysis and the identification of mortal remains.
A specialised Indian technical team for tunnel rescue reconnaissance reached Kathmandu on August 28 and began work in the affected area on August 29. Based on its recommendations, a specialised tunnel rescue team equipped with necessary equipment is also expected to reach Nepal.
The MEA further said that 120 Indian nationals crossed into Nepal from China on August 29.
The latest figures come as Indian authorities continue coordinating with Nepalese agencies on rescue operations, identification of missing persons, and humanitarian assistance in the affected areas.
