Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that both the states of Assam and Meghalaya should be ready to adopt a policy of give and take in order to resolve decades long border issue between the two states.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma made this statement in Shillong on Friday morning.

CM Sarma also informed that he along with Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma will visit the disputed inter-state border areas and ascertain the facts on ground before reaching a conclusion.

“Both the states should be ready for give and take. Me and Meghalaya CM have decided to visit the bordering areas and ascertain the facts on ground,” Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Notably, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma sat for discussions on the boundary issue on July 23.

In the meeting, Meghalaya and Assam decided to put in their best efforts to resolve the decades old inter-state boundary dispute and go beyond the word “status quo” which has been maintained by both the states.

“Both the states have come to an understanding that though status quo will be maintained in those areas, but both the states need to travel beyond the status quo, and solve the disputed areas one by one, as it may not be possible to solve all at a time,” the Assam chief minister said.

“The kind of interest showed by both Assam and Meghalaya as well as the desire of the Central government, this issue can be resolved amicably,” Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma had said.
