Pressure groups in Meghalaya have expressed utmost disappointment over union home minister Amit Shah’s silence on implementation of ILP (Inner Line Permit) in the State.
Representatives of the Meghalaya pressure groups met union home minister Amit Shah in Shillong on Saturday.
The pressure groups said that Shah is on a vacation and his visit to Meghalaya is all about site seeing of Sohra.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) president – Lambokstarwell Marngar said that the discussion with Shah was very disappointing, as the union home minister failed to address the important issues including ILP, which were raised before him.
“It’s a big insult to the indigenous people of the state. He (Shah) kept mum on all important issues including ILP,” Marngar said.
He added: “We are very disappointed with the way he treated us. After waiting for so long, we did not get anything.
Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) president, Sadon K Blah said: “He did not utter a word on the stand of the Centre on the ILP issue.
Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) chairman – Robertjune Kharjahrin said that the Union Home Minister has let the people of the state down.
“He didn’t even bother to explain why there is a delay on ILP implementation or the Centre’s stand on the issue,” Kharjahrin said.
On the other hand, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma said that Amit Shah will take up the ILP issue for discussions later, as he (Shah) is on a “very busy schedule” this time.
