A 19-year-old woman was arrested along with suspected heroin in the Laluk area of Assam’s Lakhimpur district.
The woman was arrested during an operation in No. 2 Kehutoli village under Laluk police station on Sunday when the woman, identified as Somiya Begum, wife of one Sariful Islam was found with 6.91 grams of drugs hidden inside her cloths.
A cash amount of Rs. 18,300 was also recovered from her possession.
According to police, some of her absconding family members are also suspected to be involved in drugs peddling.
Earlier in March this year, a woman drugs peddler, identified as Jonali Pator Doley was arrested along with heroin in the Parbattipur area at Banderdewa along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Lakhimpur district.
Meanwhile, operation against illicit liquor and other banned substances has been gaining momentum in Lakhimpur district and the police have busted a number of liquor dens set up at various places.
Two dealers of illegal liquor — Deba Nath and Tulsi Chetry – were arrested from Dolohat and Chawldhowa area on Sunday.
Similarly, illegal liquor dens, set up for preparing spurious liquor were destroyed in Borimuri and Rongpuria areas on the outskirts of North Lakhimpur.
Earlier, notorious ganja dealer Paris Kutum alias Gavaskar was arrested from Bhoma Amlakhi in Dhakuakhana along with 21 kg of cannabis.
