Guwahati: Assamโs Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) launched a special online counselling programme for university learners preparing for the National Eligibility Test (NET) and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) on October 2.
The programme, organised by the Indira Miri School of Education, is aimed at providing academic guidance and support to learners from Scheduled Tribe (ST), Scheduled Caste (SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC), More Other Backward Classes (MOBC) and other economically disadvantaged categories.
The online inaugural session was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, directors of various schools, faculty members, organising members of the Indira Miri School of Education and registered aspirants.
Assistant Professor of Education Ritimoni Bordoloi said the programme was designed to provide regular guidance and academic support to learners preparing for competitive examinations.
KKHSOU Registrar Pranab Saikia said the programme would benefit learners preparing for such examinations. He said several university learners had qualified examinations including NET, SLET, Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) and Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations in recent years.
Saikia advised the aspirants to focus on planning and consistency in their preparation.
N.N. Sharma, Director of the Maniram Dewan School of Management, urged the learners to make use of the online counselling classes, study resources and mock tests.
Joydeep Baruah, Director of the Surya Kumar Bhuyan School of Social Sciences, suggested gradually extending online doubt-clearing and mentoring sessions to other disciplines through commonly used social media platforms.
Baruah also proposed a tracking system to maintain records of applicants, their results and feedback. Learners were encouraged to share information about the counselling programme with others in the university.
Parag Dutta, Director (in-charge) of the Indira Miri School of Education and the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA), shared examples of KKHSOU learners who had qualified competitive examinations while working as teachers in colleges across Assam.
He suggested that learners who had already qualified NET or SLET through the university could interact with new aspirants and share their experiences.
Dean (Academic) Ranjan Dutta Kalita said candidates who had qualified for Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) could provide guidance on examination preparation.
KKHSOU Vice Chancellor Rajendra Prasad Das urged learners to make proper use of available resources and devote sufficient time to examination preparation alongside their distance learning.
Assistant Professor of Education Arunima Borah delivered the vote of thanks at the end of the online session.
