The Arunachal Pradesh Public Health Engineering (PHE) department – Itanagar division, has informed that the people of Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) may face water scarcity for a week.
The water scarcity in ICR will be a result of the damaged to the main water supply pipeline at Poma intake point due torrential rainfall causing soil erosion.
The 450mm pipeline was damaged at Rillo-Moin village.
“The pipeline supplied 11 million litres per day (MLD) to the people in Itanagar Township. Due to the damage, major parts of the town will be affected and the department may not be able to provide water as usual,” PHE executive engineer Tadar Mangku said on Wednesday.

He said that men and machinery have already been deployed for early restoration. But it will take a minimum of seven days, depending on the weather condition.
“As of now, 20 workers and linemen along with four junior engineers and assistant engineers are supervising the restoration work. The department is planning to provide water to every affected household by tankers,” he said, adding that the stored water will be enough for public usage for the next day (Thursday).
Appealing to the public to be patient, Mangku requested them to collect rainwater for domestic usage till the damage is restored.
He also said a few areas of ICC may receive water supply from Senki View Water Treatment Plant with minimum speed and volume of water for emergency purposes.
