Mizoram governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai on Monday appointed Durjya Dhan Chakma of Mizo National Front (MNF)  as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC).

Chakma, who was elected from Kamalanagar North constituency in the council polls held in April 2018, will replace Rasik Mohan Chakma, who voluntarily resigned on March 29.

The meeting of the MNF legislature party held on March 29 elected Durjya Dhan Chakma as the leader.

Earlier on March 27, in a setback for the BJP, six of its members had quit the saffron and joined the MNF.

At present, the MNF has 18 members, while the BJP has 2 members in the 20-member council.

The CADC was established in 1972 for the Chakma people. The council has 24 members out of which 20 are elected and 4 are nominated by the state governor.
