Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi has also filed nomination for the Mariani seat.

According to reports, the nominations of Arup Kumar Saikia and Alak Kumar Ghose have been rejected by the election authorities due to lack of papers required to be submitted during the filing of nomination.

After the rejection of the nomination papers of these candidates, the political equation in these constituencies is likely to change.

Our Jorhat correspondent adds:  The returning officer of Mariani Assembly constituency on Wednesday rejected the nomination papers of AJP candidate Alak Kumar Ghose, a former MLA of Mariani.

His nomination was rejected following certain technical issues like failing to fill up some columns in the affidavit submitted with nomination papers of the candidate on Tuesday.

The order of the returning officer mentioned that Ghosh despite being directed to submit a fresh affidavit today (Wednesday) on the day of scrutiny, filling all the necessary columns, which had been left blank the previous day, was found to have not filled two columns in the new affidavit following which Ghose’s candidature was rejected as per Election Commission of India rules.

Ghose, who was a BJP member, was denied party ticket this time.

He earlier contested polls under NCP and TMC banners.
