The newly formed regional party – the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on Friday will announce its candidates for the first phase of Assam Assembly elections.

It would be worth seeing from which seat AJP president Lurin Jyoti Gogoi decide to contest in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.

The first phase of Assam Assembly elections is scheduled to be held on March 27.

Notably, the AJP is contesting the elections jointly with another new regional party in Assam – the Raijor Dal.

“Discussions are on with the Raijor Dal leadership. The party will announce its candidates for the first phase today evening,” said an AJP leader.

While, the AJP is being led by former students’ leader – Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, the Raijor Dal is being led by peasants’ leader Akhil Gogoi.

Both the parties forged an alliance last month.

Notably, both the AJP and the Raijor Dal have refused to join the Assam Congress-led Grand Alliance.

However, Raijor Dal president, Akhil Gogoi recently in an open letter had urged all the opposition parties to field a common candidate against BJP in all the constituencies in the State.

Akhil Gogoi had further stated that if necessary he would refrain from contesting the elections.
