The Assam Congress-led Grand Alliance is mulling to not field candidates in the constituencies from where Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi will contest in the upcoming Assembly elections.

This was informed by senior Assam Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi.

The Assam Congress-led Grand Alliance is planning to refrain from fielding candidates in the constituencies from where AJP president Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi would contest, to prevent vote division.

“We are planning to not field candidates in the seats from where Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and Akhil Gogoi would contest,” said Pradyut Bordoloi.

However, Pradyut Bordoloi cautioned from viewing this move of the Grand Alliance as a “weak point”.

On the other hand the Lurin Jyoti Gogoi-led AJP has once again turned down the offer of joining the Grand Alliance.

Notably, the Assam Congress has been urging the two new regional parties in the State – AJP and Raijor Dal to join the Grand Alliance and contest the upcoming Assam Assembly Election jointly under one banner.

However, both AJP and Raijor Dal have turned down the offer on numerous occasions.
