In a desperate bid to revive tourism industry in the Himalayan State of Sikkim, the State Government has announced its plans to promote 2022 as ‘Visit Sikkim’ year.
Battered by the COVID-19 impact, Sikkim Chief Minister PS Golay said that his Government would leave no stone unturned to revive the ailing tourism industry of Sikkim.
“Visit Sikkim 2022, is aimed at reviving the ailing tourism industry of the State. We would like to see and welcome tourist across the world throughout the year 2022,” said Sikkim Chief Minister PS Golay.
The Sikkim Chief Minister PS Golay further informed that his Government is in consultation with the Travel Agents’ Association of Sikkim (TASS) in Gangtok and would soon come up with a design on how to promote and market State’s tourism potential across globe.
“We will do whatever is needed to revive the tourism industry as per the recommendations given by the Economic Revival Committee in its report,” PS Golay added.
Sikkim’s tourism sector, which contributes heavily to the State’s revenue, was adversely affected following COVID-19 induced lockdown and subsequent ban on entry of tourists into the State to prevent spread of the deadly disease.
However, since Sikkim reopened its doors to tourists three months back, over one-and-a-half lakh tourists have visited the State.
