CPI(M) leaders on Tuesday gheraoed the police headquarters at Agartala, protesting against the frequent attacks on its party leaders, supporters, workers and party offices across Tripura.
CPIM leaders and workers assembled in front of the police headquarters and staged a protest that continued for about an hour and a half.
CPI(M) MLAs and party workers led by opposition leader and former Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar met the Governor on Monday and sought his intervention regarding the continuous attack on opposition parties in the state.
Miscreants had attacked CPI(M) MP Jhanra Das Baidya and Congress state president Pijush Biswas on January 17.
Three CPI(M) offices were also ransacked and several party workers were beaten up on that day.
CPI(M) state secretary Gautam Das said, “Miscreant back by the ruling BJP is behind the attacks on leaders of different political parties in the state.”
“The police are reluctant to take action against those carrying out such attacks,” he said.
He alleged that Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb had provoked the miscreants to attack members of opposition parties.
He said, “We have come to the police headquarter today to ask the police how long this terror will continue.”
Later senior police officials spoke to the CPI(M) leaders and assured them of action against the accused.
On the other hand, Jharna Das Baidya has written to the vice president and ex-officio chairman of the Rajya Sabha, M.Venkaia Naidu informing him in detail of the organized attack and stone-pelting on her residence in Badharghat.
