Miscreants on Sunday attacked Tripura Congress president Pijush Biswas at Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district.

Biswas reportedly went to Bishalgarh to attend an organizational meeting, when miscreants suddenly attacked him and vandalized his vehicle in front of the Congress office.

Later police and party workers took him to the Bishalgarh hospital.

Meanwhile, Biswas claimed the entire incident took place in front of the police.

“While the BJP backed miscreants were attacking me, a police officer who was present on the spot tried to save me, but was also beaten up by the goons,” said Biswas.

Biswas alleged that the miscreants damaged his vehicle with sticks and an iron rod.

The goons also thrashed seven or eight Congress supporters who were present on the spot.

The Congress leader filed a complaint against the assailants at the Bishalgarh Police Station.

Biswas further said that the present BJP led government is worse than the earlier CPIM government as several instances of BJP cadres attacking opposition leaders and supporters have taken place in Tripura during the tenure of the present government.

Miscreants had attacked CPIM state committee member Pabitra Kar’s house in December last year.
