The troopers of Assam Rifles have recovered and seized heroin worth over Rs 40 lakh in Champhai district, Mizoram.
The contraband weighing 101.3 grams was seized following a successful operation by the troopers of Serchhip Battalion of the Assam Rifles in Zokhawthar area of Champhai district.
On person has also been apprehended by the Assam Rifles troopers in connection with the seizure.
The apprehended person, along with the seized quantity of heroin, were later handed over to the excise and Narcotics Department, Zokhawthar.

“The operation was carried out by Assam Rifles where its surveillance team noticed the movement of a suspected individual in General Area Zokhawthar. The individual was intercepted, checked on the spot and 8 hongs of heroin No 4 in eight soap cases was found in his possession,” the Assam Rifles informed.
“Ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India–Myanmar border,” the Assam Rifles added.
