A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan under Guwahati Frontier was injured in an attack by cattle smugglers along the India-Bangladesh border in Assam’s South Salmara-Mankachar district.
The incident took place in an area that falls under the jurisdiction of Deepchar Border Outpost of 6 Battalion BSF under Guwahati Frontier in South Salmara-Mankachar district of Assam.
“The BSF personnel on duty observed a group of 20-25 cattle smugglers on both the sides of the international border and they were trying to smuggle the cattle from India to Bangladesh side by taking advantage of fog and poor visibility,” the BSF said in a statement.
BSF jawans on duty challenged them but the smugglers did not pay any heed and had taken “aggressive posture”.
“The smugglers quickly encircled the jawan on duty and attacked him with bamboo sticks and sharp-edged cleaver,” the BSF stated.
During the scuffle, one of the smugglers hit a BSF jawan, identified as CT Bikash Kumar on his forehead with bamboo sticks in which he received injury.
After hitting the jawan, the smugglers ran away by taking advantage of the dense fog.
“After giving first aid, the jawan was sent to nearest the PHC at Gajarkandi in Kukurmara under the South Salamara-Mankachar district of Assam. After being treated by the doctor at the PHC, the condition of the BSF jawan is stable now,” the BSF informed.
