Assam’s health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that the elementary schools in the state, which have remained closed due to Covid19, will be reopened from January 1, 2020.
While addressing a press conference at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati, health minister Sarma said Assam has so far registered a total of 2,12,617 Covid19 cases out of which 2,08,283 have recovered from the disease.
Informing that a total of 981 people have succumbed to Covid19 in Assam so far, Sarma said the “Covid19 situation in the state is under control now”.
He informed that due to the improvement in the Covid19 situation in Assam, the temporary Covid care centres, which were set up to accommodate the positive patients, have been closed.
Now, Covid19 patients will be treated only in hospitals.
The college hostels will reopen from December 15 with limitations, the minister announced.
The final year students of the colleges will be able to come to the hostels, the minister said.
The health and education minister informed that instructions have been issued to the college principals to clean the hostels which were closed due to Covid19.
The minister informed that the decision to reopen elementary schools from Nursery standard to Class VI with effect from January 1, 2021 after discussions with the Prathamik Sikshak Sanmilani (Primary teachers association).
The guidelines regarding the classes will be issued later, minister Sarma said.
