The Dharmanagar Railway Division Demand Committee has decided to conduct meetings across North Tripura to gather support for their demand to set up a railway division at Dharmanagar.
The Dharmanagar Railway Division Demand Committee had a crucial meeting at Dharmanagar to discuss the issue of the establishment of a separate railway division at Dharmanagar for the benefit of the people of Tripura.
Justifying their demand for setting up Railway Division at Dharmanagar, the leaders of the demand committee said a large number of people of Tripura would be benefitted if the division is set up at Dharmanagar.
“From the geographical point of view and availability of land, Dharmanagar is a suitable place for setting up a Railway Division,” the committee leaders said.
They said the division will not only generate employment for the youths of North Tripura and Unakoti district but also of the entire Tripura.
If the Railway Division is set up at Dharmanagar, railway hospital, central school and many other things will come up in the area which will help in the development of the entire district, the committee members said.
The activists said the demand for setting up a Railway Division under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) at Dharmanagar is not new.
The people of Dharmanagar have been fighting for a railway division for a long time.
The Dharmanagar Railway Division Demand Committee leaders said, “The ruling BJP in its 2013 election manifesto promised to set up a Railway Division at Dharmanagar. However, the party has failed to keep their words even after coming to power.”
The leaders of the committee said, “We have decided to conduct meetings across North Tripura to gather support for setting up railway division at Dharmanagar.”
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) currently has 5 divisions including Tinsukia, Lumding, Rangiya, Alipurduar and Katihar. Tripura falls under Lumding Division.
At the field level, the divisions are directly responsible for train operations and reports to the General Manager.
Each of these divisions is headed by the Divisional Railway Manager, a senior administrative grade officer of the rank of joint secretary to Government of India.
