For speedy disposal of related cases, two fast track courts located at Uripok and Lamphelpat areas in Manipur’s state capital were inaugurated through video conferencing from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal on Wednesday.
The formal inauguration of the courts was attended by the state chief minister N Biren Singh and deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh.
Ministers L Jayantakumar Singh (Law and Legislative Affairs), Karam Shyam (Consumers Affairs Food & Public Distribution), judges of Manipur High Court, chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, secretary (Law) Athokpam Nungsitombi, and others were present during the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister Biren said such FTCs have been set up to tackle the cases related to crime against women in the State.
During the last three and half years, around 951 cases of crime against women have been registered, he added.
He mentioned that with the establishment of these FTCs, women will get faster access to justice while also serving as a deterrent to criminals.
Maintaining that there is an urgent need to dispose of all major cases of crime against women such as rape, torture etc, N Biren said these FTCs will dispose the pending POSCO and rape cases in the State.
He opined that there is a long felt need that Judiciary and Executive should go hand in hand for justice and development.
The State Government has appointed two retired district and sessions judges Salam Imocha Singh and Chandam Brajachand Singh as judges of the two newly inaugurated FTCs, he added.
In his address, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court Ramalingam Sudhakar said the objective of such FTCs is to provide speedy and effective trials to the cases related to women and children.
He mentioned that women and children need to be protected from abuse and violence.
