The All Assamese Students’ Association, New Delhi has planned to launch a Twitter storm against the draft Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) 2020 on August 3.
The Draft EIA 2020 has been issued under Section 3 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
This gives power to the central government to take measures “for the purpose of protecting and improving the quality of the environment and preventing, controlling and abating environmental pollution”, the Association said in a statement.
“On the contrary, this draft is now seen as a design to dilute existing environmental regulations through different means. The proposed changes are not guided by environmental concerns but by the concerns of corporate,” the Association added.
“The changes mentioned in the draft are not in the interest of environment protection and going to affect Northeast India the most,” the Association asserted.
Voicing out against EIA 2020, the Association has planned a Twitter storm against the draft EIA on August 3 from 7 pm to 9 pm involving all students across Assam and the Northeast residing both within and outside their respective states, it said.
