The Covid-19 fatalities in upper Assam’s Jorhat district have increased to four with the death of a 62-year-old man on Saturday.
Deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati said Covid-19 positive patient Sushil Shyamal, a resident of Gar Ali, succumbed to the disease at Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH).
Shyamal was admitted to JMCH on Saturday morning with respiratory distress and passed away at about 11.30 am.
He did not have any comorbidities, the DC informed.
With Shyamal’s death the toll rose to four. The first death from Covid 19 infection here was that of 36-year-old businessman Ashish Sahewala, proprietor of Durga Cloth Store at Barauni Bat on June 12.
This was followed by the death of another patient, 76-year-old Talebuddin Ahmed of Tiatabar, who lost his life to the deadly virus at JMCH at 3.30 am on June 14.
Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati said that Talebuddin was admitted on July 11 in JMCH as a Covid suspect and had a history of cardiac problem, diabetes and hypertension.
Later on he turned out to be positive for Covid -19 and subsequently was shifted to Covid ICU on July 12 and expired on July 14.
The third person belonging to Jorhat, who died on Friday, was Dibyajyoti Borgohain, 66, of Rajabari Road, who had a history of chronic kidney disease and expired in AMCH.
He was shifted from Jorhat Medical College and Hospital to AMCH, where he died.
The DC informed that 75 new cases were reported on Saturday of which 74 did not have any travel history.
The district so far has reported 748 cases of Jorhat and 293 patients have been discharged from hospitals.
