Wedding receptions have been disallowed in Ri Bhoi district and East Khasi Hills district while all entry points along the Meghalaya-Assam border would be closed from July 23 midnight to July 31 midnight.

However, the solemnization of marriages in places of worship would be allowed with strict protocols.

Deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Wednesday that wedding reception in the two districts cannot be allowed in view of the surge of COVID-19 positive cases.

Tynsong said that this would also apply to other feasts at home.

On temporary closure of entry points to prevent the entry of people from outside,  Tynsong said that only emergency cases like medical, essential services, transit movement are allowed but they are subjected to screening.

The entry points for checking put by Meghalaya include Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district, Ratacherra in East Jaiñtia Hills district, Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills, Tikrikilla and Hallydayganj in West Garo Hills and Mirjumla in South West Garo Hills.
