In a case of road rage, a vegetable vendor was allegedly beaten to death by five men after his bicycle hit their car at Monahkuchi village under Hajo police station in Assam’s Kamrup district on Sunday.
According to the police, vegetable vendor Sanatan Das was riding his cycle when his cycle accidently hit a car driven by Faizul Ali.
“After this, Faizul and his friend Lajlil Ali got down from the car and an argument ensued between them and Santan. After a while, they were joined by three other men and five of them started beating him,” a police officer said.
Police said critically injured Sanatan was later taken to a hospital in Hajo but was declared brought dead.
Sanatan Das, a resident of Teteliya village of the area, was a factory worker and he recently lost his job following the nationwide lockdown.
Reportedly, Faizul Ali is the brother of a local AGP leader.
Hajo police have registered a case in connection with the incident and started an investigation.
Besides Faizul and Lajlil, three other accused– Shabir Ali, Yusub Ali and Firzahan Ali—are absconding.
