Dimapur: The Nagaland government is exploring a long-term partnership with domestic and German philanthropic organisations to improve learning outcomes in government schools and ensure more effective utilisation of education funds, Adviser to the School Education Department Kekhrielhoulie Yhome said.
According to reports on Saturday, Yhome said the proposed initiative follows discussions held since October 5 between the state government and a delegation led by Nikunj Jhaveri, president of the Rotary Club of the Queen’s Necklace, Mumbai, and Martin Kasper, president of Germany-based Childaid Network Foundation.
The proposed collaboration would focus on teacher training, digital infrastructure, early childhood education, vocational skills and project-based learning, while strengthening existing government education systems.
Kasper said the partnership could involve a minimum five-year engagement, with a roadmap to be developed to improve teaching quality and student performance.
Yhome outlined the challenges facing government schools while addressing a consultative meeting of school heads and teachers under EBRC Block-Viswema Village at John Government Higher Secondary School in Viswema on Friday. He highlighted gaps in infrastructure, learning outcomes, teacher capacity and public perception of government-run institutions.
He stressed the importance of effective monitoring and accountability, better school facilities, stronger teacher training programmes and greater community participation in improving the quality of education.
Yhome said strengthening government schools would not only improve academic standards and public confidence in these institutions but also reduce the financial burden on parents by ensuring access to reliable and affordable education.
