Imphal: The Kuki Baptist Convention (KBC) has strongly condemned the killing of two civilians and the burning of several houses at Chassad village in Manipur’s Kamjong district, describing the incident as a brutal and inhumane act.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the KBC stated that Mrs. Domkhonei Touthang, wife of Lallenmang Touthang, was allegedly killed by armed personnel on the evening of October 9. She was a mother of five children. The following morning, October 10, Michael Ngamminlen Haokip, son of Paothang Haokip, was also killed in the same village. The convention further reported that several houses belonging to villagers were indiscriminately set on fire during the attack.

According to the KBC, both deceased were devout members of KBC Central Church Chassad, a centralised church under KBC Gambih No. 17.

The convention expressed concern over continued threats and intimidation allegedly originating from neighbouring villages and armed militants belonging to a particular community. It also criticised the involvement of individuals entrusted with protecting civilians in acts of violence, stating that such incidents had eroded public faith in law enforcement agencies.

Calling for urgent intervention, the KBC urged the concerned authorities to take full responsibility, institute a high-level and impartial inquiry, ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice at the earliest, and provide adequate security and protection to the people of Chassad.

It also noted that violence had been escalating in several parts of Manipur, resulting in the loss of life and property. Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the convention offered prayers for their comfort and called upon all concerned to maintain peace and work towards justice and harmony in the state.

The statement was issued by Rev. Dr. Letkhothang Haokip, General Secretary of the Kuki Baptist Convention, from Churachandpur on October 10, 2026.
