District Legal Services Authority (DSLA), Hojai, in association with Lanka Police successfully rescued a 10-year-old girl who was engaged as a child labourer
The girl was rescued from Punjabi Basti area in Lanka in Hojai district on Monday.
As per information, the girl was given to carry out heavy-duty tasks like carrying stones, sand etc. from the residence of one Avatar Singh at the time of rescue.
The rescue team consisted of Hojai DSLA secretary Pronita Morang, advocate Ruhina Waris and a team of Lanka Police.
It is unfortunate that despite implementing strict laws against child labour, Avatar Singh has been alluring the poor child to work at his home neglecting the harsh consequences of forced child labour and its effects both mentally and physically, the DSLA said
Avatar Singh forced the child to carry stones, sand etc. After receiving the necessary information from a source, Pronita Morang and others launched the rescue operation, the DSLA further stated.
The rescued child was later kept at a safe place and necessary efforts were made by DLSA Authorities to contact her parents.
