48-year-old Bino Devi and her son from Bihar, who are stranded in Dibrugarh due to nationwide lockdown, now want to go back home.
Like Bino Devi many were in the queue for the screening at Victoria High Secondary Girls’ school in Dibrugarh on Friday.
Dibrugarh district administration has launched a screening facility at Victoria Girls’ HS school for the stranded people.
Bino Devi said she came to Dibrugarh after her son taken ill and got stranded due to lockdown.
“My son Bagirath Kumar worked in a hotel in Dibrugarh. When he suddenly fell ill, I came here immediately Muzaffarpur, Bihar. He was admitted to AMCH. We have been stranded here since then,” she said.
Many people, who are stranded in Dibrugarh, now wanted to return to their home because they are facing tough time due to the lockdown.
“Our screening has been conducted and now we are waiting to go home. We don’t want to stay here because we are facing immense problem due to shortage of food. We don’t know what will happen to us. We want to go back to our home,” said Bino Devi.
Similarly, Shymal Pal from 24 Paragana in West Bengal stranded in Dibrugarh.
“I have come to Dibrugarh for interior decoration work in February and stranded here since then. We came as a team and many of our team members are stranded at Duliajan. We are staying at Borbaruah for last few months,” he said.
Hariram Thakur, who was stood in the screening line for two hours, also expressed his willingness to go to his native place.
He works as a barbar in Dibrugarh and hails from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
He is working in a saloon in Dibrugarh for past five years but now the salons were closed due to Covid-19 protocol.
“I don’t have job in Dibrugarh and having problem because of shortage of food due to lockdown. I am working in a Paltan Bazar saloon in Dibrugarh for past five after the saloon was closed our earning has been stalled,” Hariram said.
Dibrugarh joint director of health services in-charge, Nabojyoti Gogoi said, “Screening has been started and we are strictly monitoring those who are coming from outside. Regional screening centre has been set up in Jorhat and those who are coming to Dibrugarh, their screening has been done at Jorhat.
“Till now no Covid-19 positive case has been detected from Dibrugarh. We are fully prepared and make different arrangement to quarantine people those who come from outside,” he said.
