The state government has decided to send back more than 33,000 migrant workers and their families, stranded in Tripura, to their homes states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Assam.
The Tripura government is planning to send these people back to their home states by train.
An order issued by Tripura chief secretary Manoj Kumar on Monday said: “As the working season is getting over, they are required to send to their native places largely by train.”
The matter has already been taken up with the Union home ministry, the states concerned and the Railway ministry, the chief secretary said in the order.
General manager, Northeast Frontier Railay (NFR) is the nodal officer for arranging train for stranded people in Tripura, said Kumar.
The Tripura government has formed a team of senior officials for the transport of the migrant workers stranded in Tripura to their respective states.
The team has been constituted with S. R. Kumar, principal secretary, Tripura; Deepa D. Nair, special secretary, Tripura; Tapash Roy, labour commissioner and Ajit Debnath, joint transport commissioner of the state.
“The team will facilitate and coordinate transfer of migrant workers as per the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP),“ the chief secretary said in the order.
Informing about the state government’s decision, Tripura chife minister Biplab Kr Deb tweeted: “Govt of Tripura along with the help of Central Govt have decided to sent (sic) back 33000 migrant workers to their respective States from Tripura largely by train.”
“For orderly transport the migrant workers to their respective States we have formed a team consisting of senior officials,” Deb added.
