Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Wednesday said Mizoram is unlikely to face post-COVID-19 economic crisis.
Addressing to the people in a digital message, the chief minister said that the state government, as well as churches and NGOs, are making collective efforts in the fight against the pandemic.
The world economy is uncertain as no one knows what will happen in post coronavirus outbreak.
He said that his government is preparing against economic crisis likely to occur in the post-COVID-19 outbreak.
“We have vast fallow land and abundant supply of natural resources. If these resources are used effectively the state is unlikely to face economic crisis,” he said.
Zoramthanga said that the government has raised charity or COVID-19 fund and so far nearly Rs 5 crore has been donated towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) by the people.
He said that the health department was given more than Rs 100 crore from the state’s fund to fight the spread of novel coronavirus till date.
According to the chief minister, about Rs 2.5 crore has been disbursed from the CMRF as a relief to stranded people, rehabilitation centres, NGOs and village task forces.
He said that over Rs 1.56 crore has been disbursed to various Mizo Welfare Associations to assist the state residents, who are stranded outside the state.
The chief minister said that his government also extended relief of Rs 5 lakh to Chin people from Myanmar, who are stuck in Delhi due to the spread of novel coronavirus.
He said that the state government is also giving shelter and food to migrant workers and other outsiders, who are stranded in the state due to the ongoing lockdown.
Zoramthanga also called for more collective efforts from the people and urged them to contribute to the CMRF.
“We should refrain from blaming each other in our fight against the dreaded novel coronavirus spread. We continue with collective effort with renewed vigour we will overcome someday,” he said.
