United States (US) has carried out more COVID-19 tests than India, President Donald Trump has said.
Speaking to the media at the White House, the US president claimed that his country has carried out coronavirus tests on 4.18 million people.
“That’s a record anywhere in the world,” he said.
According to Trump, the US has carried out more coronavirus tests than ten other countries including India.
“We have done more testing than all of these countries combined — France, United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, India, Austria, Australia, Sweden and Canada,” he added.
Trump also said that lockdown measures had helping in curbing the coronavirus cases in the country to a large extent.
“We would’ve had millions of people die if we didn’t do this,” he added.
As per reports , New York, the epicentre of the deadly Covid-19 in the US, has 2,42,000 cases and over 17,600 fatalities so far but it has registered a 50-per cent decline in new cases over an eight-day period.
According to Trump, countries like Italy and Spain, which initially were reluctant in closing their country, had to pay a huge price.
Meanwhile, Trump has also said that the US wanted to send a team of experts to China to investigate about COVID-19.
His comments came after a day he warned China that it could face consequences if it was ‘knowingly responsible’ for the spread of COVID-19.
“We spoke to them a long time ago about going in. We want to go in. We want to see what’s going on. And we weren’t exactly invited, I can tell you that,” he added.
