Amid nationwide lockdown in the wake of COVID19 outbreak, an Indian Army unit based in Chirang distributed ration to the poor who are struggling to earn a single meal each day at Garubhasha in Chirang district.
The army personnel provided ration to daily wage workers, disabled and needy people.
A similar distribution drive was conducted across the other areas of the district to help the needy in the time of lockdown due to the COVID19 pandemic.
The daily wagers expressed the difficulties faced by them on daily basis in earning their livelihood in this appalling situation of lockdown and showed their inability in running their families.
The Army personnel showed their solidarity with these distressed people and also ensured them of help during a crisis situation in the near future.
The labourers and the daily wagers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Army for such kind and humanitarian deed.
Meanwhile, as the nation continues to battle COVID19, the Ex-Servicemen (ESM) belonging to the Army, Navy and Air Force are also assisting the civil administration and providing their services voluntarily and selflessly.
It is being coordinated by the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW) under the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
“The veterans are being contacted through the Kendriya Sainik Board and a network of 32 Rajya Sainik Boards at state level and 403 Zila Sainik Board all over the country,” said the PIB defence wing in a statement.
“Brig (retired) Narain Dutt Joshi, is ready with 300 ESM volunteers to assist in 19 districts of Assam,” the statement said.
Col. (retired) Gautam Kumar Rai at Shillong has 79 volunteers ready to assist the civil administration, it added.
Brig. (retired) JP Tiwari from Tripura has reported that the list of ESM volunteers has been shared with the state and district administration and they are on standby for any task assigned to them, the statement further said.
