Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the COVID19 quarantine facility is coming up at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on a war footing.

Sharing some pictures of the COVID19 quarantine facilities being built in the city, minister Sarma tweeted: “Happy to inform that the work on the Covid quarantine facilities being built at Sarusajai Stadium is coming up on a war footing.”

“Sharing some pictures from the facility that is being built up as we speak,” he added.

The Assam government decided to set up two large quarantine centres with a capacity of nearly 1,000 persons each in the city.

While one quarantine centre is coming up at the Sarusajai Stadium, the other will be set up at the Nehru Stadium.

As per the announcement of state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, construction work is going on in full swing to prepare the two quarantine centres.

Meanwhile, health minister Sarma visited Silchar Medical College along with Assam forest and environment minister Parimal Suklababaidya and Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy.

Informing this, Sarma tweeted: “Visited Silchar Medical College along with Min Sri @ParimalSuklaba, MP Sri @drrajdeeproy, MLAs & Principal Secy Health Sri @samirsinha69 to interact with doctors & professors & review preparations for treatment of #COVID patients.”

The health minister informed that the Assam government has signed MoUs with 22 private hospitals in Silchar for cashless treatment of the regular patients at Ayushman Bharat rates which will be reimbursed by the state government.

He tweeted: “GoA has signed an MoU with 22 pvt hospitals of Silchar for cashless treatment of regular patients at #AyushmanBharat rates, to be reimbursed by Govt.”

He also informed that the Silchar Medical College will be reserved only for COVID19 patients other than maternity and emergency cases.

On Saturday, the minister visited the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH), Guwahati where a 12-bedded fully equipped ICU has been set up.

He tweeted on Saturday: “I am so pleasantly surprised to see that since my last visit here on March 25, authorities at Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH), Guwahati, have set up 12-bed fully-equipped ICU unit. My finest commendation to Dr Abhijit Sarma & team for this.”
