Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said students would get wisdom of life only when they follow the teachings of their gurus and this is the under-lying objective behind launching Gyanjyoti scheme.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony of Gyanjyoti programme at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati on Thursday, Sonowal said through knowledge only, lights can be spread to the society.

Therefore, students should devote themselves in the pursuit of knowledge, work hard in life and bring laurels to the society, state and the nation.

Stating that students are the future of the nation, Sonowal said through hard work at least 10 hours of study a day, students can bring success to their life.

He also said success of the students will amount to success to the society.

He also appealed to the students to take care of their health and follow strict discipline, devotion, punctuality to make them fit.

He also urged upon the students to keep themselves away from narcotic substances.

He also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 130 crore people of the state, started ‘Fit India Movement’ to motivate the youths and other sections of the society to resort to good food, good thought etc.

He also asked the students to be wise user of internet and use it for the education purpose to expand their knowledge bank.

He also said that the messages that can make the society should be spread and deter from spreading such messages that can mark the society.

Sonowal also asked the students to use science and technology to make their life.

Speaking on the importance of conservation of water, Sonowal asked the students to inculcate the habits of water conservation.

He also said the Barak-Brahmaputra along with their tributaries have presented a hot bed of bio-diversity and asked the students to take responsibility to preserve their bio-diversity.

He said since plants play important role in the eco-system of the society, Sonowal asked the students to lend their hands to increase the green coverage of the planet earth.

During the four days of Gyanjyoti programme where 1048 students participated, Sonowal said the students were able to forge better understanding along with strengthening the bond of friendship.

Referring to Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala’s ‘Biswa Bijay Naujowan’, Sonowal asked the students to work hard and contribute to growth of the state so that Assam can become one of the top performing states of the country.

Sonowal also interacted with several students on the occasion.

He also released a souvenir brought out on the occasion of Gyanjyoti programme which started on 24 February and students from 18 different districts participated in the programme.

He also presented trophies to Baksa for being the best performing state and Dibrugarh for maintaining ultimate cleanliness during the four day programme.

Dispur legislator Atul Bora, chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation Jayanta Malla Baruah, deputy commissioner Kamrup (M) Biswajit Pegu also spoke on the occasion.
