The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organization (CoMSO) will work out strategies for organizing a big movement demanding ILP in the State.

The CoMSO, a conglomerate of several organizations said it would intensify its agitations from now on, but before going ahead, it will first hold consultations and take feedbacks from the people including scholars, academicians, writers, retired officers, heads of traditional institutions and others on how to move further.

“This time we are planning for a movement which will be bigger than other agitations in the past,” CoMSO chairman Robertjune Kharjahrin said.

One consultative meeting will be held in Shillong, and another will take place in Tura soon.

“We are not confusing the people, and our demand is only one, that is, the demand to implement ILP in Meghalaya and the agitation is being planned out to pursue this long pending demand of the people of the State till we achieve,” Kharjahrin said.

Stating that the Centre has given ILP to Manipur, Kharjahrin said Meghalaya is no different from Manipur, and the state of Meghalaya too needs ILP.

“The demand to implement ILP has been there for many years, and what else the Centre wants to study the resolution on ILP passed by the state Assembly?” Kharjahrin asked.

He questioned the statement of the State Government and the chief minister, Conrad K Sangma after meeting union home minister, Amit Shah on Thursday night that the delegation was satisfied with the discussion.

“What made them feel satisfied? The outcome of the meeting was unfruitful and did not bring joy and smile as expected,” Kharjahrin said.

Meanwhile, the CoMSO has also decided to implement its second phase of direct action by working together with labour department to check immigrants who came as labourers to the State without documents.

“We will stop for now our direct action where we implemented ILP by conducting checkings at various anti-infiltration check points along with the police personnel.

However will undertake surprise visit to these check points to see if police are doing their duty or not,” the CoMSO leader said.
