Arunachal Pradesh governor BD Mishra on Monday underscored the need for changing the mindset of the society towards education and effective implementation of education-related policies in the state.
“Education must be for enabling the individuals and not the only certification for securing jobs,” Mishra said while addressing the inaugural session of the 20th higher and technical education conference at the Dorjee Khandu auditorium of state legislative assembly here.
The Arunachal governor said higher education is a result of continuous educational growth and its foundation needs to be strong.
“The need is to make primary, secondary, college, teaching and studying progressive and broad-based,” he said.
Mishra emphasized the need for an education system improvement wave to improve the present system encompassing all elements of quality education such as competent teachers, effective teaching and learning environment, and regular assessment of education.
He stressed that selection of faculty must be totally merit-based and there must be an appraisal system of teachers.
The Arunachal governor urged the teachers and students to work with the ‘nation first’ attitude and take their profession as a nation-building measure.
The Arunachal governor advised the participants to discuss the important themes of higher education and its strategies, and also debate innovative practices for introduction in the colleges.
He also stressed functional, efficient and result-oriented placement cells.
The governor on the occasion felicitated C K Singh, retired lecturer with ‘Life Time Teachers’ Award’.
He also felicitated Dr Temin Payum, assistant professor (Botany), Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat and S Suresh Kumar, principal-in-charge of Government Polytechnic, Namsai the with ‘Outstanding College Teachers’ awards.
Mishra on the day also gave away the governor’s cash award (awards for toppers in the undergraduate course examinations for the year 2019).
Dr Kento Kadu for JNC Pasighat received the best NSS programme officer award while Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar received the best NSS unit award.
Nabam Narba of Don Bosco College, Jollang and Gede Basar of JNC, Pasighat received the best volunteer award from education minister Taba Tedir.
