In a bid to curb traffic rules violations by city buses on Guwahati roads, the traffic police have issued WhatsApp numbers for commuters to file complaint about rule violations.
The WhatsApp numbers introduced by traffic police are–6901269006 and 6026176755.
“We are appealing to the citizens to send pictures of the buses violating the traffic rules, to these WhatsApp numbers. The traffic police will act immediately after receiving a complaint. Commuters can also file any matter related to city buses, including bus fares,” a traffic police official said.
The official said that it is a collaborative effort of the city traffic police, district transport authority and various stakeholders.
The District Transport Officer and Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Kamrup, recently issued several new guidelines for plying of the city buses in Guwahati in a bid to mitigate traffic congestion.
“In a bid to minimise traffic congestion in the city, especially on the GS road and the MG Road, more than half of the city buses plying on these two roads have been diverted to other roads, even beyond the Guwahati Municipal Corporation area. More than 11 permits of city buses have been suspended till today,” secretary of the Regional Transport Authority, Kamrup, Bapan Kalita said.
He said some routes of the city buses have also been partly changed.
They are – route number 33–Kahilipara to Amingaon via Chandmari, route number 34–Notboma to Amingaon via Chandmari, route number 35–Chandrapur to Dharapur via Engineering College, route number 36–Basistha Mandir to Adabari via Paltan Bazar, route number 37–Basistha Mandir to Adabari via RG Baruah Road, route number 38–Narengi to Khanamukh via Chandmari and route number 39–Panjabari to Adabari via Chandmari, among others, he added.
