Nagaland on Sunday joined the rest of the country in administering the polio drops to children below five years of age on National Immunisation Day.

Kohima deputy commissioner (DC) Thejawelie Gregory launched the drive in the state by administering polio drops to a three-year old girl child at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima.

Nagaland health and family welfare department has set a target of reaching 2, 77,283 children in 2,274 polio booths manned by 9,096 health personnel along with other vaccines and logistics across the state.

Special focus is also given to the migrant population to prevent the importation of Polio cases.

Healthcare personnel and volunteers would be conducting house to house visit in the next two days for eligible children who have missed their doses today.

Chief minister Neiphiu Rio has urged all parents who have children below five years to ensure that their children receive polio drops.

State immunization officer Ritu Thurr said the department is reaching out to the migrant population living in urban towns of Dimapur and Kohima.

Thurr said mobile teams are also deputed at railway stations, bus terminals and in high-risk locations like construction sites.
