Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has come forward to develop the infrastructures of the primary schools of the Aspiration district Darrang in Assam.

This came as a succour to the government funding agencies including Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan in the elementary education sector.

In one such initiative, NRL, one of the leading Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) of the State has agreed to bear an amount of Rs 1,88,83,000 for overall electrification of a total 402 numbers of primary school buildings.

This has been stated by the district elementary education officer, Dr Jawahira Tabassum.

According to the statement, the funds thus received are to be utilized for externational electrification of 334 number of school each against a cost of Rs 8500.

On the other hand, the remaining portion of the fund will be used for internal electrification like wiring and electrical fittings of 1337 rooms in 391 numbers of school against a cost of Rs 12000 per room.

In this connection a ceremonial launching function was organized at the Pranami Bhawan recently.

Mangaldai Lok Sabha MP, Dilip Kr Saikia ceremonially launched the project in presence of legislators from Mangaldai and Sipajhar Gurujyoti Das and Binanda Kr Saikia respectively.

Deputy commissioner Ghanshyam Dass and senior officials of NRL and APDCL besides the school heads of the majority of the beneficiary schools were also present.

The completion of the work is expected to benefit nearly 48,000 students and 1645 teachers especially during hot summer days and also in imparting knowledge through new technology intervened teaching methods like ICT in near future.

It has been learnt that Darrang district administration has submitted a plethora of project proposals for development of the education and health sector costing around Rs 24,25,84,000 in the fiscal year 2018-19 and 2019-20 under CSR of different CPSE s like NRL, IOC, BPCL, EIL and GAIL.

Significantly as per the statistics out of the total project proposal cost more than Rupees 20,440,000 has been included for the elementary education sector of the district.

The district till November has received an amount of Rs 20,35,60,000.

The other project proposals in the education sector already submitted included 254 numbers of additional class rooms, 72 numbers of toilets and biometric attendance system in 951 schools among others.
