Members of the Jorhat unit of AASU on Saturday burnt the effigy of BJP’s Rajya Sabha member from Assam, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa.

The effigy was burnt at the AT Road in front of the Jorhat deputy commissioner’s office complex.

The students’ body burnt the effigy of Tasa for making derogatory comments on All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi during the BJP booth level workers’ meeting at Khanapara in Guwahati on Saturday.

AASU members shouted slogans against Tasa, the former Jorhat Lok Sabha MP, calling him ‘incompetent’.

Jorhat district AASU assistant secretary Bijoy Shankar Bordoloi along with Jorhat regional unit president Arjunmoni Bhuyan participated in the effigy-burning programme.

While slamming Tasa, Bordoloi said the BJP leader is like a migratory bird, who contested elections from different constituencies and lost all except the 2014 parliamentary elections due to Narendra Modi wave.

The AASU leaders criticised Tasa by saying he was denied the party ticket for the Jorhat Lok Sabha seat in 2019 polls for his ‘incompetence’ and could get the Rajya Sabha seat after begging for it before the BJP leadership.

They warned him against passing disparaging remarks against AASU leaders.

The AASU leaders also said the agitation against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 will be further intensified.

Meanwhile, Jorhat police on Saturday arrested two persons – Gopal Tanti and Krishna Basfur – from Rajamaidam Harijan Colony of Jorhat on charges of being involved in drugs peddling.
