Braving rain and the inclement weather, people in large numbers came out in Mariani and staged a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA.

Organised by the Shilpi Samaj in collaboration with the local residents, the protestors attentively listened to the speeches of actors Barsha Rani Bishaya, Amrita Gogoi and singer Jayanta Nath.

In her speech, popular actor Barsha Rani Bishaya asked the people to keep protesting in a peaceful manner.

“Until CAA is not scrapped, keep protesting but keep it peaceful and do not withdraw your protests. Do not fall prey to the tactics used by the government to divide and suppress the protests,” she said.

Slogans against CAA were raised by the protesters.

Several speakers said that people were ready to give a befitting reply to Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and their supporters in the next assembly election.
