Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni Aparanji Korati on Sunday filed a case against an Upper Division (UD) clerk of the development branch of the district administration for swindling development funds.
According to sources, the complaint has been lodged against UD clerk Dipak Bora.
He has been allegedly involved swindling of funds meant for central infrastructure development works.
The officer-in-charge of Jorhat police station, NK Bora, informed that a case has been registered against Dipak Bora on the basis of the complaint lodged by the deputy commissioner of the district.
Police officer NK Bora said charges of forgery and cheating have been leveled against Dipak Bora.
It has been suspected that Dipak Bora has fraudulently withdrawn an amount of Rs 25 lakh.
Police officer NK Bora said the police raided the house of Dipak Bora on Sunday but he had already flown the coop.
NK Bora said Dipak Bora has been placed under suspension on suspicion of being involved in the mysterious fire that broke out in Room No 55 of the development branch in February this year.
Several important files and computer sets were destroyed in the fire. Police cases – 85/19 and 397/19 – are pending against him and as he had taken anticipatory bail the police could not arrest him.
In both these cases, he has been charged under sections 436, 120 B and 386 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
